Often found inhibiting bottom mud or sand at depths of 2 to 90m. It is most abundant in shallow waters and the adults are marine which breed offshore. Their postlarvae and juvenile however tends to reside in estuarine environments. Tolerent to low water quality conditions and dissolved oxygen levels compared to P. monodon, it is a significant aquaculture species in various countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and South Africa. The maximum total length is about 220mm.The rostrumwith 7 to 9 dorsal and 4 to 5 ventral teeth. They are cream white in color with small specks of blue and red pereiopods and pleopods. They are closed thelycum species.
